New Lists of Standards for Machinery, ATEX and Construction Products

Today, the European Commission has published new lists of European harmonised standards for the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) and the ATEX Directive (2014/34/EU), and a new list of EADs for the Construction Products Regulation.

The Lists of harmonised standards are added to the CE Marking Library. Also the standards database will be updated shortly.

CE marking of fabricated structural steelwork under the Construction Products Regulation

Here is a great video explaining about CE marking of fabricated structural steelwork under the Construction Products Regulation (305/2011). The video is also supported by a information rich “encyclopedia”: http://www.steelconstruction.info/CE_marking. Although the information aims at the UK industry, most of it applies to any company that intends to make available fabricated structural steelwork in the European Union.

Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC): Update to list of European harmonized standards

This morning, the European Commission published an updated list of the European harmonized standards that pertain to the Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC). The standards on this list may be used by construction products manufacturers to prove that their construction products complies with the essential requirements of this directive.

This updated list is important to all manufacturers of CE marked construction products that have used European harmonized standards to prove CE compliance. If you have applied standards to prove compliance with the aforementioned directive, we recommend you to check the new list of standards to see if any of the standard you applied have been updated, or whether there are new standards available for your products. When standards have been updated by this list, you need to re-evaluate your products against the updated standard and update your Declaration of Conformity.

On the list for the Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC), the following standards are added or amended:

EN 54-25:2008/AC:2012 Fire detection and fire alarm systems – Part 25: Components using radio links
EN 197-1:2011 Cement – Part 1: Composition, specifications and conformity criteria for common cements

Screed material and floor screeds – Screed material – Properties and requirements

This European Standard specifies requirements for screed material for use in floor construction internally. To support the aim of achieving a performance related standard, as far as practicable this standard refers only to the properties of the product and not to its method of manufacture, except when this is unavoidable in the description of hte characteristics of the product.

Specification for mortar for masonry – Part 1: Rendering and plastering mortar

This European Standard is applicable to factory made rendering/plastering mortar based on inorganic binders for external (rendering) and internal (plastering) use on walls, ceilings, columns and partitions. It contains definitions and final performance requirements. It does not covers mortars where calcium sulphate binder is the principle active binding agent. Calcium sulphate binder can be usedr as an addtional binder together with air lime. If air lime is the principle active binding component, the rendering/plastering mortar is covered by this standard. If the calcium sulphate binder is the principle active binding component, the mortar is covered by EN 13279. The classification is carried out by the producer of the mortar. Special fire resistant- and acoustical mortars, mortars for structural repair and surface treatments of building elements such as materials for smoothing or trueing, paints, coatings, thin-layer organic renders/plasters and prefabricated units (e.g. boards) are not dealt with in this standard. This standard covers redering/plastering mortars defined in clause 3 with the exception of site mde rendering/plastering mortars. However, this standard or part of this standard may be used in conjunction with codes of application and national specifications covering site made mortars.
